Castelldefels Beach: almost five kilometres of Mediterranean life
Golden sand, Mediterranean water, almost five kilometres of promenade and sixteen chiringuitos for a full day beside the sea.
A beach for much more than sunbathing
Castelldefels Beach is a continuous 4.84-kilometre stretch of fine golden sand, with an average width of around 100 metres. It is divided into three sections: La Pineda, measuring 2,090 metres; Lluminetes, measuring 770 metres; and Baixador, measuring 1,980 metres.
Running beside the beach is the approximately five-kilometre Passeig Marítim. It is ideal for a morning run, a relaxed family walk, an evening stroll or watching the sun set over the Mediterranean.
Even on busy summer days, the width of the sand means the beach rarely feels as confined as many urban beaches. There is room for swimming, sunbathing, walking, playing and enjoying the sports and leisure facilities distributed along the shore.

The Mediterranean in Castelldefels is warmest between June and October. In August, the historical average reaches approximately 25°C; in winter it falls to around 13°C. These are historical averages: weather, wind, currents and the conditions in a particular year can change the actual temperature.

The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) monitors bathing water using microbiological indicators, principally Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Annual classification uses data from four bathing seasons; the 2025 classification was based on 36 controls carried out between 2022 and 2025 at each coastal bathing zone.
The water can look cloudy after wind or waves stir up the fine sand. This does not necessarily indicate poor hygienic quality. Always check the current beach flag, sea conditions and any jellyfish or temporary-incident warnings before entering the water.
Lluminetes and Baixador hold the Blue Flag; the beach has also received the Ecoplayas, Biosphere and Spanish Q tourism-quality distinctions.

The beach combines a flat walking route, areas for sand sports, family facilities and many access points to the sea.
Walk the entire seafront
The Passeig Marítim follows approximately five kilometres of coastline and is comfortable for walking or running.
- A flat route suitable for family walks and morning runs.
- Along the way you pass restaurants, chiringuitos, dunes, residential areas, children’s facilities and beach access points.
- Cyclists should use only sections with a designated cycle lane; cycling is not permitted on pedestrian-only sections.
Beach volleyball and beach tennis
Castelldefels has a long tradition of beach sports, with courts, nets and spaces that change according to clubs and events.
- There are several beach-volleyball and beach-tennis areas, plus football goals, korfball and other sand-sport spaces.
- There is no reliable current total for permanent courts: nets are installed, removed or reconfigured.
- The Voleiboom tournament in July 2026 used 20 temporary volleyball courts; these should not be confused with permanent public courts.
Visit the children’s play areas
Public play areas are distributed along the sand, and some chiringuitos also have small children’s areas.
- Public areas do not have fixed opening hours; chiringuito play areas follow the establishment’s opening hours.
- The best-known facility is the Pirate Ship Playground beside the seafront at the end of Carrer 11.
- It is next to Parc del Mar and close to the Carme Romaní Beach Library, around Passeig Marítim 135–137.
- A 2011 municipal inventory counted seven areas, but it should not be presented as the current total.

The beach bars serve everything from coffee, breakfast and cold drinks to tapas, salads, grilled food, Mediterranean dishes, rice and cocktails. There are four permanent establishments open year-round and twelve seasonal beach bars.

The March 2026 concession announcement used the name Onador, while subsequent beach-season information and the public tourism listing use the customer-facing name Ibiza. Ibiza is therefore the more useful name for visitors.
