Eating Well in Castelldefels

Rice beside the sea, creative tapas, international cooking, chiringuitos and practical options for eating at your apartment.

A city made for slow meals

A city made for slow meals

Castelldefels has more than 300 restaurants: seafood and rice, steakhouses, Thai, Japanese, Italian, tapas and chiringuitos. The scene spreads across the town centre, residential districts and almost five kilometres of beach.

The sea supplies fish, prawns and cuttlefish; the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park provides fruit and vegetables; and Garraf contributes herbs, meat and a distinctive Mediterranean identity. The city belongs to the Délice Network of Food Capitals and joined Saborea España in 2026.

The city has an officially recognised sea-and-mountain recipe: prawns and cuttlefish with pork ribs, seasonal vegetables, bomba rice, fish stock, sofrito and thyme from Garraf.

Restaurants must meet requirements for ingredients, preparation, service and price to receive the authenticity seal. The project received the Best Values in a Destination award at GastroPlanet 2026 and was also recognised at FITUR 2026.

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dining

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dining

Many restaurants offer vegetarian dishes, but check the current menu and ask about stock, sauces, dairy and cross-contamination, especially in rice restaurants and fried food venues.

For a strict diet, confirm ingredients directly with the restaurant before ordering.

Useful phrases

Soy veganoI am vegan

Soy celíacoI have coeliac disease

¿Lleva caldo de pescado o de carne?Does it contain fish or meat stock?

¿Hay contaminación cruzada?Is there a risk of cross-contamination?

Prepared food ready for delivery

Food delivery in Castelldefels

Food delivery in Castelldefels

Glovo, Uber Eats and Just Eat are the main platforms. Availability depends on the exact address, day, time and the restaurant’s current capacity.

Delivery is useful because Castelldefels is geographically spread out. Pizza, Thai food, sushi, burgers and tapas usually travel well; rice, grilled fish and delicate fried seafood are generally better in the restaurant. Where possible, ordering directly can reduce commissions and makes it easier to ask about ingredients.

The Mercat de Pagès takes place on Saturday mornings, normally from 09:00 to 14:00, in the pedestrian section of Carrer d’Arcadi Balaguer. It is useful for seasonal tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, fruit and other produce from the surrounding area.

A simple meal of local tomatoes, olive oil, bread, cheese, olives and fruit can be as memorable as a restaurant meal—and considerably less expensive.

Practical advice

Practical advice

Reserve Sunday lunch

Rice restaurants are especially busy on Sundays, public holidays and summer weekends.

Expect a later dinner

Many kitchens begin around 20:00 or 20:30; the busiest period is usually 21:00–22:30.

Ask how long rice will take

Freshly prepared rice often takes 25–40 minutes and may require a minimum order of two people.

Look for the menú del día

On weekdays this is often the best-value meal: two courses, dessert or coffee and sometimes a drink.

Check the terrace

Ask whether it is smoking or non-smoking; rules and arrangements vary.

Confirm seasonal opening

Chiringuitos and some beach restaurants reduce hours or close in winter.

Do not judge only by the sea

Casa Víctor, Sawadee, Café de Finca and La Pampa are in the centre or away from the immediate beachfront and worth the trip.

A city made for long meals

A city made for long meals

Have coffee in the town centre, share award-winning tapas, eat traditional rice beside the sea, order Argentine steak, discover Isaan cooking or spend an afternoon at a chiringuito. The essential experience is gathering around a rice dish: L’Arròs de Castelldefels brings together the sea, the agricultural plain and the Garraf landscape in one pan.
